Dive Brief:
- A two-month viaduct repair project for the California Department of Transportation in downtown Sacramento will add 20 years to the life of the two 2,530-foot-long structures that together carry the six lanes of U.S. 50 over streets and rail lines.
- Myers and Sons Construction has begun holding meetings about the project and doing some preliminary inspection for the work that the state's project website, Fix50.com, says is slated to take about two months, beginning April 22.
- The project involves repairing the cracked decks of the structures, laying 4 inches of new concrete and placing casings to add seismic strength.
Dive Insight:
Myers has done rehabilitation before, working on a San Francisco area project and on Interstate 5 in Sacramento. Company Vice President Clinton Myers says the experience helps in managing public expectations during the job. He said experience also teaches that there probably will be a few surprises for both contractor and client in getting inside structures built in 1968.
