The head of a group of Boston businesses working to bring the 2024 summer Olympics to their city has withdrawn his construction company from Olympic building contracts.

John Fish owns Suffolk Construction. After the U.S. Olympic Committee last week named Boston as its nominee for the U.S. Olympic site, Fish said he doesn’t “want the appearance of a conflict” of interest should the International Olympic Committee choose to locate the games here.

The U.S. Olympic Committee chose Boston over San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C, which had been among the top four U.S. contenders for the games.

Critics had complained that Fish, whose company is one of Boston’s most prominent building firms, was leading the charge for Boston so his business could benefit from Olympic-related construction.
As he made his announcement, Fish also said he will continue to head up Boston’s effort to win the Olympic bid.
