Dive Brief:
-
Three construction and real estate companies made Fortune magazine’s 2015 list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For.
-
At No. 10 on the list, which Fortune released Thursday, is Camden Property Trust, which owns and operates apartment complexes. In surveys, its employees called the firm’s culture “fun-filled” and pointed to the vacation suites the company offers to its workers, a 20% discount on their rent, and college scholarships.
-
David Weekley Homes ranked No. 14 for the four-week, paid sabbatical it offers workers after 10 years on the job. And PCL Construction, at No. 67, was lauded by its employee-owners for offering compressed workweeks, tuition reimbursement, and an onsite fitness center.
Dive Insight:
This isn’t the first time any of these firms has claimed a spot on Fortune’s coveted Best 100 list, which companies from all industries vie for. The benefit of inclusion: good publicity. Fortune magazine, where the list is published along with profiles of the winners, goes to 850,000 readers, not including the Web surfers who happen upon the articles online. And the better a construction company appears to job seekers who happen to read about it, the more likely they are to apply for positions there.
